CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu chief minister M K Stalin on Monday launched ‘Ennum, Ezhuthum Mission’, a literacy and numeracy mission to make all children up to eight years read and write, do basic math without any mistakes.
More than sixteen lakh students studying from classes I to III in government and government-aided schools will be taught reading and writing skills using innovative ways including dance, songs, storytelling and puppetry among others. After a baseline assessment, students in each class will be categorised into three levels Arumbu (first level), Mottu (second level) and Malar (third level) and given worksheets for Tamil, English and maths subjects. Students will learn from these workbooks in the first term in both Tamil and English medium.
“It will not only reduce the learning gaps that happened during the pandemic, but it will also increase the learning capabilities, creativity and self-confidence of students. I am confident of achieving the target by 2025,” Stalin said while inaugurating the programme at Azhinjivakkam panchayat union middle school in Tiruvallur district. He said the success of his government depends on the success of this scheme.
The CM said education is one asset which cannot be stolen by anyone. “If anyone points to someone who accomplished without education, we can show one lakh persons who have achieved it because of education. If anyone tells one can achieve without studying, students should understand that it is a conspiracy to show the wrong way due to the irritation that they are developing through education,” he said.
