Tamil Nadu: Farm implements given away

MADURAI: As many as 2,134 farm kits are being distributed to farmers in Madurai district under Kalaignarin All Village Integrated Agriculture Development Programme which is implemented in 58 villages. Agriculture and allied departments have been coordinating this programme to develop dry lands into farm lands.

The state government has sanctioned 49.41 lakh to Agriculture and Farmers Welfare department to provide 2,134 farm kits to farmers from these 58 villages. The farm kit, each costing 2,297, comprises a crow bar, spade, weeder and other farm implements. Regular farmers will get a subsidy of 75% of the cost and scheduled caste farmers 90%.

M Padmanabhan, a farmer from Veerapandi village, said the farm implements would be very useful for them. He owns 2.4 acres of land and agriculture department officials helped him to apply for the scheme.
