CHENNAI: It was the AIADMK which paved way to help the Tamil Nadu government employees to get dearness allowance (DA) at par with the Union government employees, but today they are facing many hurdles which are preventing them from getting it, AIADMK coordinator O Panneerselvam said in a statement on Sunday.
OPS said the hike in DA was put on hold for the Union government employees in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic. It was reviewed on July 1, 2021 and it was decided they would be given the dues from the same day, including the DA for 2020. The state government too had implemented it, said OPS.
But the DMK government enhanced it from 17% to 31 % and is giving it from January 1, 2022, with a backlog of six months compared to the Centre, he said.
