Tallaght church release statement on false allegations of large gathering at parish house and suspension of priest

A Dublin church is "outraged" after "defamatory and slanderous" false allegations of a large gathering at the parish house and the suspension of a priest circulated around social media over the long weekend.

Messages regarding St Aengus' Church in Tymon North were distributed over the weekend on social media which falsely claimed a gathering had been held near the holy Tallaght grounds.

One of the local priests was then falsely said to have been suspended following the supposed party.

However, when contacted by Dublin Live, the church claimed that there is "absolutely no truth in this story".

Fr Ben Moran said that there was "outrage in the parish" community over the allegations, and said the messages had been passed on to the Gardai for further investigation.

"There's absolutely no truth in this story," he said.

"There's outrage in the parish at the defamatory and slanderous Snapchat posted on WhatsApp.

"There was no illegal gathering, no suspension. The matter in the hands of An Garda Siochana."

Dublin Live have contacted Gardai about the messages.
