The rise in our cost of living was found to be Londoners greatest concern according to a new poll conducted by Deltapoll for London Communications Agency, which found that 52 per cent of respondents felt this was the issue that was most pressing for them. These numbers compare with just 29 per cent that said housing was the most important issue, and 26 per cent that felt the Ukraine war was causing them the most concern.

Energy bills are set to soar by nearly £700 a year from April as the energy price cap rises while average fuel prices have hit record highs on forecourts. Chancellor Rishi Sunak is under increasing pressure to do more to help those in the UK who may already be struggling to pay their bills, as the invasion of Ukraine continues to put pressure on energy prices.

Mr Sunak is coming in for particular criticism for his planned hike in National Insurance,  Levelling Up Secretary Michael Gove on Sunday ruled out scrapping the NI rise and said that cost-of-living pressures “will accumulate as a result of what’s going on in Ukraine”.

Labour has called on the Government to act over the cost of living crisis after its own analysis revealed the average family is facing an annual rise of £386 in the cost of petrol.
