The "cold trainers'' list in today's Racing Post makes interesting reading, with Aidan O'Brien a rare addition. The stable has gone 13 days and 26 runners without a win. All that could change today, of course, but it is something to bear in mind when assessing O'Brien's powerful team at Longchamp and Newmarket this weekend.
One trainer firmly on the "hot trainers'' list is Amanda Perrett. She can keep up her good run with Midships (4.55) at Newmarket this afternoon. This grey colt clocked an excellent time when making all the running to score over course and distance last month, and a 4lb rise in the weights could be lenient.
I hesitate to back two-year-olds first time out, but the John Gosden newcomer Wajaha (3.45) looks an exception. Gosden has some cracking two-year-olds in his stable to give him a line and this filly is highly regarded.
There is a good jumping card at Hexham, where Alfie Flits (4.30) can prove the star of the show. He has lost his way a bit on the Flat, but retains a fair level of ability and he is said to jump hurdles really well.
