A quiet Sunday. If you're into racing, I'd say you're more likely to spend the day ruminating possible Cheltenham bets than tuning into the slow-motion contests set to take place at Market Rasen, Huntingdon, Bangor and Leopardstown.
The most significant action will take place at the Irish track, after the last race - as has become traditional, Leopardstown is then thrown open to whichever trainers want to get a last bit of work into their Festival runners. It's notoriously difficult to extract reliable clues from these sessions but Sky's The Limit looked brilliant on this day two years ago, before hosing up in the Coral Cup. M'colleague Greg Wood will have a full report in Monday's paper.
For those of you in need of an immediate winner, I suggest Front Of House (5.20) in the bumper at Huntingdon. Nicky Henderson's runner, owned by Sue Magnier, is reckoned to be an excellent prospect and would apparently have run in a much better contest at Newbury yesterday if the owner's son had been available to ride.
Lenrey (4.25) should take advantage of Perce Rock's poor fencing to land the novice chase at Leopardstown.
7.15pm Front Of House wins, Lenrey second
Front Of House won easily, but was clearly expected to do so, having been sent off at 4-7. The Racing Post had him at 6-4 this morning -- if only they'd been prepared to lay it.
Lenrey outjumped Perce Rock all the way round and looked all over the winner at the second-last. Sadly, Perce Rock's lack of fluency wasn't enough to knock the finishing kick out of him and he had too much acceleration for the selection after the jumping was done.
