Talking Horses

First things first. Wolverhampton's all-weather card is pure betting shop fodder and strictly for the needy and greedy. Which leaves Folkestone and Fakenham over the sticks. The problem at the two jumps meetings is the uncompetitiveness of the majority of the races. The race I took the longest look at yesterday was the novice handicap chase at Folkestone, and last night as I struggled to get to sleep as rain and winds battered the house I could not have been more pleased with my decision to nap 2.00 Abraham Smith. The softer the better for this one and the overnight rain that has turned the going on the chase course to good to soft, soft in places has only increased confidence. Abraham Smith's two unplaced runs this term were hardly bet-compelling runs but the selection is well in on pieces of form from last season, including when falling two out at Bangor one day with the race seemingly at his mercy, and he should give a good account today with conditions in his favour.

The best result today would be a tenth win at Fakenham for Cool Roxy, the horse dubbed a cult hero in today's Racing Post. He should deliver but the price is very skinny and for a wager, 3.20 Transvestite makes more appeal. This tight track that suits speedy sorts will be ideal for this decent Flat campaigner who ran a promising race first time over hurdles last month. That form looks the best on offer and there should be improvement forthcoming.
