Taliban say evacuations from Afghanistan must be complete by August 31 with “no extensions”

The Taliban has said no evacuations from Afghanistan will be permitted after the August 31 deadline.

During a press conference in Kabul, spokesman Zabihullah Mujahidsaid said: “August 31 is the time given and after that, it’s something that is against the agreement.

“All people should be removed prior to that date.

“After that, we do not allow them, it will not be allowed in our country, we will take a different stance.”

The statement has been made after a wave of evacuations have ensued since the Taliban took control of Afghanistan on August 15.

The UK has been involved in assisting with the evacuation of soldiers and citizens from Afghanistan since the Taliban took over.

The government has been working with the Taliban to ensure the safe passage of people evacuating the country.

A spokeswoman for Britain's foreign ministry said that since Sunday last week, approximately 1,200 people had left Kabul on flights for the United Kingdom.

When asked on Wednesday whether Britain hoped to take 1,000 people out of Afghanistan a day, Prime Minister Boris Johnson's spokesperson stated they were "aiming to operate at that capacity."

It is not yet clear what Mujahid means by the Taliban taking a "difference stance" in regards to people trying to evacuate Afghanistan.
