Takeaway crowned best in Leeds and it could soon be named the UK's top one

A city centre takeaway has been crowned the best in Leeds and is the running to be named the top one in the UK.

Organisers of the British Takeaway Awards have announced the Yorkshire businesses in the running to take the regional crown.

Celebrity chef Ainsley Harriott, Graham Corfield, chief operating officer of Just Eat, and Sarah Willingham, entrepreneur and former star of Dragon's Den will be amongst the judging panel selecting the winners.

Tavassoli’s Cafe, Bar & Grill, based in New Briggate, is the only Leeds takeaway to make the Yorkshire shortlist.

They are up against businesses from Wakefield, Halifax, Ilkley and Bradford. The winners will be announced in 2020 during the ceremony happening in London on January 27.

Each regional winner will receive £1,000 and the Best Takeaway in Britain will receive £5,000.
