T20 World Cup: No breakfast at team hotel and poor scheduling irk Sri Lanka

NEW YORK: "What did you have for breakfast?" Maheesh Theekshana was asked in the mixed zone after Sri Lanka's loss to South Africa on Tuesday. "You want an honest answer," Theekshana shot back.

"We had to travel one hour fourteen minutes to come to the ground. So we had to leave the hotel at 5.30 am and obviously, there won't be breakfast at that hour," the Lankan spinner who plays IPL for Chennai Super Kings, fumed, adding that South Africa are 14 minutes away from the ground.

The World Cup authorities though clarified that there is breakfast in every dressing-room and "it's a good spread".

But it's not just about the breakfast, it is the travelling that the team has to do in between matches. "We have to travel so much, it is really difficult. It's not easy to give your best," Theekshana said.

The player informed that Sri Lanka Cricket will inform ICC about it, but there's not much that can probably be done at this stage. Sri Lanka have a must-win game against Bangladesh in Dallas on Friday they are already on the road again, hoping to win that and stay in contention for a Super-8 berth. Sri Lanka manager Mahinda Halangoda has written to the ICC on the matter.

Skipper Hasaranga echoed the sentiment. "We had a tough time last few days. All four games in four venues. It's hard. We didn't know. This is our first game in New York. Next game in Dallas, next game is in Florida where we played two games, that's the only plus point we have," he said. Sri Lanka manager Mahinda Halangoda has written to the ICC.
