Sweat at the Donmar Warehouse: First look at Lynn Nottage’s Pulitzer winning play

The first pictures have been released for the Donmar Warehouse’s production of Sweat by Lynn Nottage.

Lynette Linton directs the production, running until January 26, which is based on Nottage’s own experiences of Reading, Pennsylvania, one of the poorest cities in the USA. Over the course of two years she spent time with the people of the town, documenting the lives divided by racial tension and economic collapse.

Sweat won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 2017. It was her second win following Ruined, making Nottage the first woman in history to win two of these accolades.

The cast includes Leanne Best, Patrick Gibson, Osy Ikhile, Wil Johnson, Stuart McQuarrie, Clare Perkins, Martha Plimpton, Sule Rimi and Sebastian Viveros, with design by Frankie Bradshaw, lighting by Oliver Fenwick, sound and music by George Dennis and movement by Polly Bennett.

The production marks Lynette Linton’s final show at the Donmar as resident assistant director, before she moves on to the role of artistic director at the Bush Theatre in January.
