Swastikas sent to Burnley post offices days after 'White Lives Matter' plane scandal

Threatening letters with swastikas on them have been sent to post offices in Burnley.

They arrived days after some Burnley fans hired a plane to fly a “White Lives Matter” banner over Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium during Monday’s Premier League clash.

Five post offices, some owned by Asians, got the letters on Wednesday.

Police are investigating. Det Insp Andy Horne said: “We understand this may cause concern. We are carrying out extensive enquiries although there is not currently believed to be any direct threat.

“We are looking at the possibility that the letters are linked to a number of others received by post offices across the county in December last year.”

Police previously confirmed no action will be taken after the plane carrying the banner 'White Lives Matter' was flown over the Etihad.

Chief Superintendent Russ Procter confirmed "there are no criminal offences that have been disclosed at this time".

A statement read: "Today Lancashire Constabulary has been in liaison with Greater Manchester Police, the Aviation Authority and the Crown Prosecution Service regards the 'White Lives Matter' banner that was flown over the Etihad Stadium last night.

"After assessing all the information available surrounding this incident we have concluded that there are no criminal offences that have been disclosed at this time."
