Swansea City transfer news as boss puts 'our best offer' in front of target and Swans star in team of season

These are your Swansea City headlines on Friday, May 12.

Millers to put 'best offer' in front of Ogbene

Rotherham United boss Matt Taylor says the club will put their "best offer" in front of star man Chiedozie Ogbene this summer.

The Republic of Ireland attacker was Swansea's number one target in the January transfer window and will become a free agent this summer.

The Millers staved off relegation and are now hoping to tempt the 26-year-old to stay at the AESSEAL New York Stadium by presenting him with their most lucrative package.

“We’ll put our best offer in front of Chieo,” Taylor said. “What a fantastic situation for him to be in. He’s got the security blanket of the best we can achieve and I know he’s got suitors elsewhere in the higher echelons of professional football.

“Full credit to him, he fully deserves it.”

Swansea head coach Russell Martin is known to be a fan of Ogbene and was keen to stress he would be looking to add power and pace to his attacking line.

“I think we just have a couple of things we haven’t got at the moment,” the head coach said on the last day of the season.

“Some real pace to scare the life out of teams, some real athleticism, especially on the top line would be really helpful for us.

“I don’t think that’s changed really in the last 18 months in terms of what we felt would be ideal.

“Hopefully we’ll be able to add to that and help the guys we’ve got here. But what the group has given us here is incredible. I think if we have that we have a real chance of building and improving on this season.”

Manning in team of season

Swansea full-back Ryan Manning has been named in WhoScored's Championship team of the season.

That will come as no surprise to Swans fans who have seen the Republic of Ireland international turn in an impressive number of displays this term.

With an average rating of 7.26, the report on Sky read: "Rounding off the backline is Swansea star Manning. The 26-year-old returned the joint-third most assists (10) in England's second tier, while no player made more key passes than the Swans full-back (108) in the Championship. As such, Manning deserves his inclusion in the side."

Manning is out of contract this summer but Martin is hoping one more round of talks could possibly persuade the Republic of Ireland international to sign a new contract in SA1.

Championship team of season: Viktor Johansson; Trai Hume, Tom Lockyer, Anel Ahmedhodzic, Ryan Manning; Amad Diallo, Josh Brownhill, Oliver Norwood, Joao Pedro; Chuba Akpom, Iliman Ndiaye.

Obafemi wants more at Burnley

Michael Obafemi says his time at Burnley so far has been "amazing" - although he admitted he hadn't played as much as he would have wanted.

The striker joined the Clarets on loan in January, with the move set to be made permanent imminently. He arrived at Turf Moor on the back of an injury, which affected his acclimatisation in Lancashire.

Having sealed the Championship and promotion back to the Premier League, Obafemi says this is just the start.

“It’s been amazing," he said. "I haven’t played as much as I would have liked, but I came here not fit, not 100%. I’m happy though to have contributed a couple of goals – one of which was to keep the streak alive.

"I'm so happy to be here. The boys are amazing, the team's amazing. And the fans are absolutely amazing. The support I’ve had since I’ve been here has been incredible. Even when I was playing at Swansea, I knew the Burnley fans were amazing.”

“Next season we go hard at it," he added. "[The Premier League] doesn’t intimidate me. I want to become the best player that I possibly can.

"Even on the first day of training I could see what the lads were top of the league – and I’m happy that I’ve played a part maintaining that. Everybody here deserves this reward. We enjoy it now, but then it's about next season; and we will put on a show for the fans.”

Huxford 'landed' with solo effort

Corey Huxford says he was "landed" with his brilliant solo goal in the 10-1 thrashing of Birmingham City this week.

Swansea under-21s ran riot at the Swansea.com Stadium, with Josh Thomas pitching in with four and Huxford scoring a breath-taking effort which left his team-mates in awe.

"I'm landed for the boys, it was a great performance from everyone," said Hurford. "It just shows how much hunger and commitment we have to pull out a result like that right at the end of the season.

"With the goal, I thought I could just chip in as we had already scored eight! I had a little go, and in the end it came off and I was landed with it.

"All year, everyone has been working hard and to finish it off like we did just shows that everything we've done all season has paid off.

"As a team, we've been dominant this year. I feel like we've caused teams lot of difficulties as we like to move the ball and we do it in our way.

"Scoring 10 goals in one game in this league is amazing, not many teams will do that and it just feels like a performance like that is the finishing touch on the back of everyone's hard work."
