Swansea City's Jefferson Montero linked with transfer despite West Brom woes

Swansea City's Jefferson Montero is a target for Mexican side Deportivo Toluca.

Newspaper Record state that the Liga MX outfit would be interested in the 29-year-old, who spent the second half of last season away from the Liberty.

He joined West Brom on the last day of the January transfer window but clocked up only 119 minutes of football at The Hawthorns.

His stint in the Midlands began brightly enough, scoring just five minutes into his full debut for the Baggies, but it went downhill from there, with caretaker boss Jimmy Shan seemingly not a fan of the Ecuadorian.

Graham Potter had given the winger another another chance in SA1 at the start of the campaign, and he was repaid with a number of match-turning displays.

But inevitable injuries followed and Montero was eventually allowed to leave South Wales on a temporary basis. Now interest has come from Mexico.

Montero has played there twice before; firstly in 2008 during a loan stint with Dorados then with Morelia, from who Swansea signed the flyer in 2014.

New boss Steve Cooper will likely want to run the rule over his new players before making any decisions on his squad make-up, but Montero may choose to move on after five years in Landore.

He has a year to go on his current deal in SA1.
