Suspended Missouri guard Mario McKinney Jr. announces he will transfer

Missouri Tigers freshman guard Mario McKinney Jr. will transfer from the program, a team spokesperson confirmed to The Star.

McKinney was suspended indefinitely from the team and missed the win against the Florida Gators last Saturday. Mizzou coach Cuonzo Martin did not disclose the reason for McKinney's suspension.

McKinney appeared in seven games this season, averaging 2.6 points and 1.6 rebounds per game. He last played in the loss to Tennessee on Jan. 7. The team's plan was to transition him to more of a combo guard as he struggled to crack Mizzou's guard-filled rotation.

The St. Louis native is a cousin to former Mizzou guard Jimmy McKinney, drawing fan interest as a talented in-state recruit.

"It's been real Mizzou But all this comes to a end appreciate everyone that helped me since I been here Love Y'all and wish nothing but the best," McKinney posted on his Twitter account.
