Maoist carrying Rs 14 lakh bounty gunned down in Madhya Pradesh

BHOPAL/JABALPUR: A 25-year-old suspected maoist was eliminated by Hawk Force of state police in Balaghat district.

Police said the operation resulted in the elimination of a prominent Maoist leader known as Kamalu, who was an active member of the Tada Dadeksa dalam. Kamalu, who carried a bounty of Rs 14 lakh on his head, marks a moment in the ongoing efforts to combat insurgency in the region, they say.

The operation took place on the morning of September 29th when the Special Directorate General (SDG) Birsa Hawk Force engaged with Maoist insurgents during a forest search operation in the Kundal-Koddapar and Songuda forests, located within the jurisdiction of the Rupjhar police station. The encounter ensued when Maoists opened fire on the Hawk Force personnel, prompting a decisive response. In the ensuing firefight, Kamalu got killed.

This achievement stands as the third major success of the year in the Balaghat district. Earlier this year, on April 22nd, Balaghat police apprehended a woman Maoist area commander, Bhoram Dev, along with an associate, each carrying a reward of Rs 14 lakh.

These two individuals were key figures within the Tada Dadeksa dalam. Furthermore, the year also witnessed the elimination of Maoist ACM Sunita and Kabir's guard, ACM, both of whom were actively involved in the insurgency.

These operations resulted in the recovery of a significant cache of Maoist weapons, ammunition, and essential supplies, underscoring the extent of the Maoist threat in the region.

Inspector General Sanjay Kumar, Superintendent of Police Sameer Saurabh, and CEO of Hawk Force were present to oversee the aftermath. Police noted that intelligence indicated additional Maoist casualties.

Subsequently, a heightened search operation has been launched in the forested areas to ensure the safety and security of the region. The successful neutralization of Kamalu and the ongoing efforts to combat Maoist insurgents represent a crucial step forward in restoring peace and stability to the Balaghat district, say officers.
