Suspected 'grenade' explosion near Sidhra bridge in Jammu outskirts, probe on

JAMMU: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Wednesday launched a probe after a suspected grenade explosion which was heard near a checkpoint on Sidhra Bridge in city outskirts late night, officials said on Wednesday.

The explosion took place approx 3.0 kms away from the site where Lt Governor Manoj Sinha was scheduled to dedicate the multistoryed parking lot.

Police sources said, "At about 22:25 hrs on Tuesday, an explosion near Sidhra Bridge Naka point was heard and police teams rushed to the spot."

"The explosion by a 'suspected grenade' was aimed to cause serious injury to life and property, However there was no loss of life and property reported."

"Immediately after the blast-like sound, the police reinforcements including Special Operations Group (SOG) teams rushed to the spot and the area was cordoned. A massive search operation was being carried out but no one was arrested during the night-long operation", sources said.

Sources said, "Meanwhile forensic teams and explosive experts too are on the spot to carry forward the probe.Sources said that a case vide FIR No 411/2022u/s 3 Explosive Substances Act (ESA) was registered at P/S Nagrota and further investigations are on."

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Jammu Chandan Kohli briefly said, "A suspected grenade blast-like sound was heard near Sidhra bridge checking point. "A thorough search is being carried out on the spot to verify the matter," SSP Jammu Kohli added.

He said that further details shall be shared accordingly.

It is Pertinent to mention here that J&K Police blasted an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) under controlled manner which was found along Sidhra-Kunjwani bye-pass road on Jammu-Srinagar national highway here in the city outskirts early this year on April 28.
