Suspected drink driver arrested as two injured in 'serious' crash

A man has been arrested on suspicion of drink driving after two people were injured in a crash in a Merseyside village.

Merseyside Police today urged witnesses to come forward after the smash between two cars in Thornton Hough on the Wirral.

Emergency services were called to Neston Road after what police termed a "serious collision" between a blue Volkswagen Passat and a silver/grey Volkswagen Polo.

The 50-year-old driver of the Polo and a 20-year-old female passenger, both from the Wirral, were taken to hospital where they were treated for their injuries.

They have since been discharged from hospital.

A 24-year-old man from Hyde was arrested at the scene on suspicion of drink driving.

He has been released under investigation.

Appealing for witnesses, a Merseyside Police spokesperson said: "We are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the collision or may have captured it on their vehicle’s dashcam to come forward."
