Suspect named after fire breaks out inside hotel room

A suspect has been named after a man allegedly barricaded himself in a hotel room and set fire to the bedding.

Police descended on the Holiday Inn on Wood Lane in Runcorn at around 11pm on Saturday following reports of an incident. Residents told the ECHO a large number of police vehicles were seen outside the hotel at the time.

Darren Gray, 29, of Edinburgh Road, Glasgow was arrested and charged.

A Cheshire Police spokesman said Darren Gray appeared at North Cheshire Magistrates’ Court in Warrington on Tuesday charged with arson with intent to endanger life, affray, two counts of assault and four counts of assaulting an emergency services worker.

He was remanded in custody and is due to appear at Chester Crown Court on Tuesday, June 28.
