Susanna Reid reveals why Piers Morgan wasn't on GMB despite negative coronavirus test

Piers Morgan's Good Morning Britain co-host Susanna Reid was forced to explain why he was absent from the show on Tuesday, despite testing negative for coronavirus.

Piers revealed on Sunday night that he had been tested for COVID-19 after displaying some symptoms but, after GMB health expert Dr Hilary Jones revealed to viewers on Monday that Piers' symptoms 'weren't typically associated' with the virus, the outspoken presenter returned to Twitter last night to confirm his test had given a negative result.

He posted: "My COVID-19 test was negative. I was advised to take the test by my doctor after developing possible coronavirus symptoms, and was entitled to do so as a Govt-designated essential worker. I'll be back on @GMB as soon as my doctor advises I'm OK to return to work."

Piers wasn't back behind the GMB desk on Tuesday morning and Susanna told viewers at home: "We are happy to report that Piers tested negative for coronavirus however he is still under the weather."

Dr Hilary was also in the studio and added: "For him and his family, we're relieved too. It's really good news for anyone that tests negative for COVID-19.

Piers had some symptoms that were suggestive so it's really good that he was able to have that test and that it was negative, so we wish him a quick and swift recovery. He'll be there quite soon, I imagine."
