Surya Grahan 2026: Date, Time, What To Do

The first ever solar eclipse of 2026 will appear on 17th February 2026, Tuesday. This special sky event, also known as Surya Grahan, happens when the Moon passes between the Earth and the Sun. During this time, the Moon blocks the centre of the Sun, leaving a bright ring visible around it. This type of eclipse is called an annular solar eclipse. India will not witness this Surya Grahan. Since the eclipse will not be visible in India, its religious impact within the country is considered minimal.

Exact timing may vary depending on global time zones, but in India there will be no visible eclipse phase. Converted to Indian Standard Time, the main eclipse phases correspond roughly to the afternoon/evening of February 17, around 5:00-7:30 PM IST but this event won’t be visible in India because the Sun will be below the horizon here when the eclipse occurs.
