Surrey star Will Jacks set for Big Bash League stint with Hobart Hurricanes after shining in Vitality Blast

Surrey's Will Jacks is set to join Hobart Hurricanes in the Big Bash League as the Vitality Blast Player of the Year receives his first opportunity in an overseas T20 league.

Jacks is set to sign with the Hurricanes for the first five matches of the tournament as a replacement for another Englishman, Dawid Malan, who will be in the squad for the national team’s white-ball tour of South Africa, which is due to take place in November.

Each team are allowed two overseas players per match, although that could rise to three.

The catch will come if Jacks himself receives a first England call-up and given he was the Blast’s most valuable player, scoring 309 runs and taking 14 wickets as Surrey made the final, that is possible.

Equally if Jacks impresses with the Hurricanes, he could stay longer than the initial five matches.

The BBL is set to begin on December 3 and will include a raft of English white-ball specialists who have a gap in their international commitments after the South Africa tour, talks for which are at an “advanced stage”.

Hurricanes have form for taking a punt on young English talent, having given opportunities to Tom Curran and Jofra Archer three seasons ago.
