Surrey re-sign West Indies star Kemar Roach ahead of title defence

Kemar Roach is again set to play a key role in Surrey’s County Championship defence after agreeing a return to the Oval for the first half of next season.

The West Indies star has been a vital part of Surrey’s seam attack during back-to-back title wins in the past two seasons and has on Friday been re-signed for the opening seven matches of the 2024 summer.

“Everyone knows that Surrey is a second home for me, and I love coming to London to play at one of the best grounds in the world,” Roach said.

“The Club's ambitions in the red-ball game are a big draw for me and I want to play my role in winning another County Championship trophy. I cannot wait to start my fourth season with Surrey.”

Roach has taken 73 wickets for Surrey at an average below 25 in a series of successful stints across the past three summers.

The 35-year-old will be available throughout April and May, before the Championship season pauses for the start of the Vitality Blast.

Roach is then expected to be involved in the West Indies Test series against England during July.

“Kemar has been an important figure in the team's success in the last few years and we are delighted to have him back,” said Surrey director of cricket Alec Stewart.

“He has consistently shown his qualities on and off the field in the last three seasons, and I look forward to seeing him play an important role this season.”
