Surprise candidate emerges as frontrunner for new Strictly host

  • Irish presenter Angela Scanlon has emerged as a "surprise hit" and one of four frontrunners to host the 2026 series of Strictly Come Dancing, following the departure of Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman.
  • Scanlon, a former contestant on the 2023 series, reportedly impressed BBC bosses during a week of filmed auditions with her chemistry and ability to react to live situations.
  • Other TV personalities reportedly in contention for the hosting roles include Rylan Clark, Emma Willis, and Zoe Ball, with Ball currently considered the strong favourite.
  • The report appears to rule out other previously rumoured names, such as Bradley Walsh and Alison Hammond, while the BBC stated that plans for the 2026 series will be announced in due course.
  • The upcoming series will also see changes to the professional cast, with Gorka Marquez among those departing, and companion show 'It Takes Two' is reportedly set for a refresh, potentially becoming a vodcast.
