SURAT: The crime branch sleuths nabbed four members of the notorious Chikligar gang after a dramatic operation early on Tuesday. A video of the entire operation went viral on social media.
Those arrested were identified as Jarnelsingh alias Jallu Rupsingh Tank (36), Lakhansing Kartarsing Bavri (26), Jagirsing Bholasing Tank (35) and Pradipsing Jogindarsing Bavri (28). They are involved in a series of thefts in the city and other parts of the state. The accused were arrested near Dastan railway crossing on Bardoli road.
Police seized valuables worth Rs 10 lakh from the accused, including stolen goods.
Videos of the police operation to catch the gang members show the cops hitting the van with wooden sticks. As police try to capture the accused, they make a failed bid to escape and smash into an earthmover and another vehicle.
“Our teams were working to catch the gang that has targetted a few homes in the city and Navsari in the recent past. These criminals have attacked cops in the past hence police used different means to corner them,” said Ajay Tomar, city police commissioner.
Meanwhile, the viral video surprised many who are aware of the functioning of the police. Police record such videos for learning or use if any legal issue arises. However, multiple videos of the operation came were circulated on social media.
