Former MSNBC host Joy Reid just shared some big political guessing, wondering out loud if Vice President JD Vance is planning ahead to find a new wife to strengthen his position with the MAGA base before a possible 2028 run. Reid shared her thoughts on the I’ve Had It podcast, saying that the behavior Vance recently showed with another woman, Erika Kirk, seems strangely planned.
According to Fox News, this strong guessing comes from Reid’s belief that Vance might not be accepted as the 2028 successor to President Donald Trump because of his current wife, Usha Vance. Reid pointed out that Usha Vance is Indian American and Hindu, which she sees as a big problem for a base that includes Christian nationalists.
“They can’t have the successor to MAGA be the guy with the Brown Hindu wife,” Reid said clearly. “They’re also Christian nationalists. That ain’t going to work.” Reid didn’t hold back when talking about what she sees as the result of this political reality. She said that Vance is either “throwing his wife under the bus,” or maybe “she’s in on it.” It’s a terrible situation to think about, but Reid certainly believes the political pressure is real.
Reid thinks Vance may be planning a political marriage swap
The main part of the recent suspicion, however, centers on the strange interactions between Vice President Vance and Erika Kirk during a Turning Point event last month. “I’ve Had It” co-host Jennifer Welch described the physical interaction as “the weirdest s*** I’ve ever seen,” noting that Kirk seemed to be taking on a “Tammy Faye era” look.
Reid reacted with surprise when describing the hug. She recalled how Kirk was “holding on the back of his head and rubbing on his head.” If you saw someone holding your husband like that, Reid admitted, you’d definitely be suspicious. It’s certainly not normal public behavior for a high-ranking official and a woman who isn’t his wife. Vance has previously faced criticism for his controversial views on immigration numbers.
Reid then turned her attention to Kirk’s clothing at the event, which seemed to add to her suspicion that something planned was happening. Reid suggested that Kirk wasn’t dressing right for her supposed role.
Joy Reid pushes the deranged conspiracy theory that JD Vance is going to leave his wife for Erika Kirk:

“You not doing that right thing,” Reid commented about Kirk. “You’re supposed to be a widow, you in leather pants?” She finished the thought with a simple statement: “That’s not widow wear.” You can imagine the eyebrows that raises when you pair that comment with the physical closeness described earlier.
In the end, Reid seemed to suggest that if Vance were to leave his current wife for Kirk, it would be a planned political move designed to bring the MAGA base together around him. She framed the possible outcome as a dark political fantasy.
“Wouldn’t it be the most perfect fairy tale, MAGA fairy tale, if he finally sees the light that he needs a White queen instead of this Brown Hindu?” Reid asked the podcast hosts. She immediately made clear that she wasn’t confirming this was happening or that Usha Vance wasn’t aware of the situation. This speculation comes amid ongoing debate about Vance’s stance on cutting social programs.
