Supercomputer predicts Scotland to lose Auld Enemy clash against England and tips shock Euro 2020 winners

A supercomputer has predicted Scotland's Euro 2020 foes Czech Republic will win the summer tournament.

Sports data providers Sportsradar have simulated the entire competition "using artificial intelligence algorithms to create a huge number of different game situations, outcomes and game plays".

The Euros, in contrast to the World Cup, is known for shock winners - unfancied Portugal took the crown last time in 2016 by upsetting France while Greece and Denmark took the continent by storm in the two decades prior to that.

But the Czechs would likely top the lot if they were to manage their predicted run which includes a group stage triumph over England before disposing of Spain, Germany and Portugal before edging the Danes 3-2 in the final.

Clearly boss Jaroslav Silhavy and his side are highly rated by the experts but Scotland aren't so lucky.

They're not tipped to make much of an impression and it's bad news for Steve Clarke and a hopeful Tartan Army for the trip to Wembley - the Three Lions are tipped to triumph 1-0 over Scotland in that Auld Enemy clash.

Speaking of England, the boffins suggest they'll make it all the way to the semi-finals but will crumble at that penultimate hurdle as they did at the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

Werner Becher, Sportradar’s regional chief executive officer for Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Latin America, said: “After such a long delay there’s a real sense of excitement about this tournament amongst fans.

"We’ve tapped into the breadth of our technical capabilities to simulate the tournament, processing millions of data points from the last 20 years in order to identify the winning team.

“Football is unpredictable, it’s one of the things we love most about the game, but few fans would have put Czech Republic and Denmark in the final.”
