Supercomputer hands Sunderland good news ahead of play-off final with Charlton

Sunderland return to Wembley this weekend to tackle Charlton Athletic, with a spot in the Championship next season up for grabs.

The Black Cats travel to the capital in a poor vein of form, securing just three wins from their last 10 matches - although one of those saw them overcome Portsmouth in the semi-finals.

Meanwhile, Charlton have an impressive record of eight wins in their last 10 matches, putting them as the favourites in the formbook, but a supercomputer from SportNation.Bet has given Sunderland the edge.

Jack Ross’ side are given a 52% chance of winning at Wembley against Charlton, a slight edge over the Addicks - who have a 48% likelihood of stopping Sunderland from returning to the second tier.

Sunderland have also had the edge against Charlton this season, winning 2-1 at the Stadium of Light and securing a 1-1 draw in their away match.

However, the victory over Charlton back in August is the only win Sunderland boast against Charlton in the past eight meetings - with the Addicks winning three matches and honours being even on four occasions - although the meetings prior to this season came in the Premier League.

That, added to the supercomputer’s predictions, suggest it will be a very tight game at Wembley and the game may go beyond 90 minutes.

Likelihood to win

Sunderland - 52%

Charlton - 48%
