Super League Stat Attack - star performers from round three as leaders emerge

The third round of the Super League season has been and gone and certain players clocked up big numbers. Here are the top performers in key metrics.

Tries

Wigan winger Liam Marshall is the current pacesetter with 8 tries in 3 games. He got a hat-trick against Castleford to add to his four against Wakefield last week. Tom Johnstone also scored against Hull FC to take his season tally to five with Rovers centre Shaun Kenny Dowall in third place on four.

Assists

It's great to see two English halves leading the way here with George Williams and Harry Smith taking their season tallies to six assists. Williams got three in Wire's comeback win against Salford in a round where Gareth O'Brien came back to haunt the Robins once again.

Tackles

Wakefield's Aussie forward Jai Whitbread leads the way in tackles so far after his hefty figure of 56 against Huddersfield. Cam Smith also topped the 50 tackle count for Leeds with Brad Fash's 48 for Hull in Perpignan taking him into third place.

Missed tackles

Brad Dwyer missed 11 tackles in Hull's heavy defeat to Catalans with Matty Lees, an England international, also missing ten in the Saints' defeat to Leeds. However, it's Kenny Edwards who has missed the most so far this year with 20.

Tackle busts

A strong display from Rhyse Martin saw him bust a dozen tackle attempts on Friday night with George Williams and Ben Garcia also having strong accounts. It's Tim Lafai who still leads the way, though, with Hull fullback Tex Hoy behind.

Carries

Half-backs George Williams and Jaob Miller saw plenty of the ball this week, joining John Asiata with 27 carries a piece. They make up the top of the carry charts with Abdull taking his season tally to 63.

Metres

Wigan's Liam Marshall made an incredible 302 metres for Wigan against Castleford, but it's Josh Charnley who still leads the way with 570. George Williams also features after a strong start to the year.

Errors

Round three was a tough week for some more senior players with Gareth Widdop taking his error tally to seven for the season. It was also not one of Tommy Makinson's best nights.

Offloads

Sam Luckley continued his strong start to his Rovers career with Esan Marsters adding four to his total to lead the way - not a bad feat given Huddersfield have only played two games this year.

Overall leaders: Esan Marsters (8), Joe Westerman and Tim Lafai (both 7), George Williams, Sam Kasiano and Shaun Kenny Dowall (all 6)

Penalties

Shaun Wright and Liam Watts both gave away three penalties this week. However, it's Marc Sneyd, Peter Mata'utia, Mike Cooper that led the unwanted tag with four each.
