Sunderland handed away draw against Premier League opposition in FA Cup fourth round

Sunderland have been drawn against Premier League Fulham in the fourth round of the FA Cup. The Black Cats will travel to London at the end of the month to face Marco Silva's side at Craven Cottage.

The tie will be played between Friday, January 27, and Monday, January 30. Sunderland were due to take on Rotherham United in a Championship fixture at the New York Stadium that weekend, but that game will now be rearranged.

No new date for the match against the Millers has been confirmed as yet. Tony Mowbray's Sunderland side progressed to the fourth round of the competition after scoring two injury-time goals at League One Shrewsbury Town yesterday, to seal a 2-1 victory.

Fulham beat Championship side Hull City 2-0 at the MKM Stadium yesterday, with Layvin Kurzawa and on-loan Leeds United winger Dan James on the scoresheet. Sunderland played Fulham in the fourth round of the FA Cup back in 2015, which was the last time the Black Cats reached this stage of the competition.

On that occasion, the sides fought out a goalless draw at the Stadium of Light before Sunderland went on to win the replay 3-1 at Craven Cottage thanks to a Marco Bettinelli own goal, a goal from Ricky Alvarez, and a Jordi Gomez penalty.

The sides have met since then in the Championship, with Sunderland winning 1-0 on Wearside in the Championship in December 2017 and Fulham winning the return game 2-1 in April 2018.
