SN P MP branded 'Junket Queen' after racking up freebie overseas trips worth £44,000
An SNP MP has been branded Westminster’s junket queen after a Sunday Mail investigation revealed an astonishing £44,151 of freebies – many from questionable sources. Dr Lisa Cameron has accepted tens of thousands of pounds worth of hospitality from tax havens, dictatorships, a gambling firm, bankers and other groups.
Much of the international travel, luxury hotels, VIP event tickets, dining and drinks is the result of the MP’s membership of 68 controversial All-Party Parliamentary Groups (APPGs), according to records dated July 2022. She has previously been on another 43, taking the total to 111.
An estimated £30million has been poured into APPGs from outside interests over the past five years and there are fears they could be the source of Westminster’s next big lobbying scandal.
Controversial Scots comedian Jerry Sadowitz banned from Fringe amid racism and flashing claims
Scots comic Jerry Sadowitz has been cancelled by the Edinburgh Fringe after a raft of complaints about his show. Shocked audience members and venue staff hit out at the controversial comedian, who called his show 'Jerry Sadowitz: Not for Anyone' and warned it contained "strong language and themes some may find distressing".
The 60-year-old had two shows booked at the Pleasance, but was told he had been cancelled amid claims he used racist language and flashed on stage.
Sadowitz tweeted: "Did a show last night, 75 mins, thought it went well. Didn't see any walkouts. Today I'm told my show's been cancelled. Great stuff. I'm truly sorry for everyone who travelled to see the show tonight."
Edinburgh Zoo's giant Panda Yang Guang opens presents on 19th birthday
Edinburgh Zoo's giant male panda celebrated his 19th birthday with a special present.
Yang Guang, whose name means sunshine, is the UK's only male giant panda. Keepers at the wildlife conservation charity treated him to a large birthday present filled with bamboo, carrots and honey to celebrate his big day.
The The Royal Zoological Society of Scotland also announced that lucky panda lovers could win the chance to feed Yang Guang before he goes home to China next year. To be entered into the prize draw, animals lovers are being asked to make a £5 donation.
First pic of hero off-duty cop who rushed to shooting in Dornie after Skye incidents
This is one of three hero police officers who ran to the scene of a major gun incident linked to a series of violent attacks and a murder. Off-duty inspector Bruce Crawford and two uniformed colleagues helped bring the incident under control on Wednesday morning after being called to a house in the remote Ross-shire village of Dornie.
There police found osteopath John Don Mackenzie and wife Fay lying injured. Fay had been shot in the head and her husband also violently attacked.
Experienced senior officer Crawford, who lives in the area, wasn’t working at the time but rushed to help his two colleagues, who were already on the scene. Their actions allowed police to promptly announce there was no threat to the wider public.
Man arrested after alleged stabbing in Glasgow street as cops cordon off scene
A man has been arrested after an alleged stabbing in Glasgow city centre in the early hours of this morning.
Cops raced to Union Street after 1am when they were alerted to the incident. A man was found injured and taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary.
There is no information on his condition. Officers say a 33-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection to the serious assault of a man.
