Scots covid vaccine that could beat Omicron axed by Boris Johnson

A Covid-19 vaccine developed in Scotland but abandoned by Boris Johnson could beat Omicron.

The UK Government is facing furious demands to reinstate a £1billion contract with Livingston-based Valneva to buy 100million doses of its drug.

Its jab – codenamed VLA2001 – works differently to the vaccine currently on the market as it targets entire virus cells rather than just individual spike proteins.

Domestic abuse victim with five kids told 'move 300 miles to Glasgow safehouse' or give up one child temporarily

The single mum was told the closest refuge space was in Glasgow, 300 miles away (Birmingham Live)

A mum of five trying to flee her abusive partner was told to travel 300 miles to Glasgow to seek refuge - or temporarily give up one of her children.

The 29-year-old from Birmingham, who has two sons and three daughters, feels she is being punished for having a large family after being told the nearest safehouse she could stay in was in Scotland.

Body found in search for missing man Joel McDiarmid

A body has been found in the search for missing man Joel McDiarmid.

The 28-year-old was missing from the Bathgate area.

Police say formal identification is yet to take place, but Joel's family has been informed.

There are no suspicious circumstances, and a report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.

Heavy snow and high winds as Met Office issues weather warning for Scotland

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for heavy snow across a large area of Scotland and northern England.

Heavy snow is expected across the central belt, Strathclyde, Perthshire and the Highlands.

Another yellow weather warning for the east coast of Scotland has been issued from 9am today to midnight as strong winds and some delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport are likely.

Nicola Sturgeon adviser warns it is 'too late' to stop Omicron variant

On Saturday, it was announced all travellers arriving to the UK will be required to take a Covid pre-departure test from Tuesday.

Professor Mark Woolhouse, a member of the Scottish Goverment 's Covid-19 advisory group, said the measures would not make a "material difference" as the variant is already "spreading pretty rapidly".

He told BBC One’s Andrew Marr Show on Sunday: "I think that may be a case of shutting the stable door after the horse has bolted."
