Paramedics and police officers battled in vain to save a suicidal woman who had stabbed herself .
The tragic incident unfolded last night in the Charleston area of Dundee following reports of concern.
But when medics turned up the woman, in her 50s, attacked them as they tried to help.
A police source said: “The poor lady had stabbed herself but when paramedics arrived she attacked them.
She could only be helped when police arrived to help subdue her but sadly she died.”
Police Scotland confirmed the incident and said they have referred to the PIRC for investigation.
The source added: “The referral to PIRC is standard.
The woman clearly needed restrained so medics could attend to her injuries which ultimately proved fatal.”
