Stunning Glasgow SEC Armadillo drone shot confirms it's actually a giant croissant

When thinking of buildings that look like food, perhaps the first that comes to mind is 30 St Mary Axe, a commercial skyscraper in the City of London that boasts the nickname the Gherkin.

Or if we are thinking of any similar buildings north of the border our minds might be drawn to The Dunmore Pineapple located around 30 miles from Glasgow near Airth in Stirlingshire.

And while some might chuck in The Pyramid at Anderston as our very own addition to the list, given its resemblance to a Toblerone chocolate bar, there appears to be another one hidden right under our noses.

That is The Armadillo and the little know fact that, from above at least, it looks like a giant metal croissant.

We are all used to the iconic image of it lit up at night on the Clydeside next to sister venue the SSE Hydro, and the shape the view gives us of it looking like the armoured mammal.

But a stunning fraîche drone pic from above the 3,000 capacity venue, taken by amateur snapper Pics by Pedro, offers us a new perspective of The Armadillo as a huge architectural buttery French pastry.

That being the case, maybe there's room for us to freshen up its nickname as The Croissant, although since we Glaswegians love our fry-ups more than out continental-style breakfasts, we doubt it would properly catch on.

Some food for thought...
