The Philadelphia Eagles saved their season, by grinding out a hard-fought, 34-27 victory over the Green Bay Packers at historic Lambeau Field. The Birds lost two more players to injury, but handed the undefeated Packers their first loss, while moving to 2-2 on the season, with the winless Jets coming to town.
With the Eagles have eight more days off until their next game, here are the studs and duds from Thursday nights all-important win.
Stud: Carson Wentz
The Eagles star quarterback was again cool, calm and collective while taking what the Packers defense was offering him. Wentz completed 16 of 27 passes, for three touchdowns and no sacks or interceptions.
Dud: Nelson Agholor
Agholor had a rough week and then went out and played a game where he was targeted no times for no yards. With the Eagles dealing with injuries at wide receiver, an almost $10 million a year wideout can’t go games without a catch.
Studs: Eagles offensive Line
All five starters combined to make the Eagles offensive line finally look like the highest graded group in football. The Eagles were dominant up front, as Miles Sanders and Jordan Howard combined for 159 of the Eagles’ season-high 176 rushing yards. The Eagles averaged 6.1 yards per carry on first down.
Stud: Craig James
James and Rasul Douglas were the only healthy cornerbacks left after Avonte Maddox exited Thursday nights game. The practice squad signee stepped up on the goal line, helping break up a pass that was intercepted by linebacker Nigel Bradham to preserve the 34-27 win over the Packers.
“I was just waiting for my time, ready for my name to be called,” James said.
Stud: Jordan Howard
Howard was everything Eagles fan envisioned when the Birds acquired him from the Bears via trade. Howard ran with toughness and had 115 yards from scrimmage and three touchdowns. Howard averaged 5.8 yards per carry, showed soft hands in the passing game and his most physical run put the Eagles ahead for good.
Dud: Andrew Sendejo
Sendejo is constantly reckless as a tackler, and his blind hit on Avonte Maddox could cost the cornerback a week or two of playing time. Burned several times this season, Sendejo could also land the Eagles a compensatory pick if they cut him.
Stud: Rasul Douglas
The most consistent cornerback to finish the 2018 season, Douglas continues to improve as a player and brings a toughness and physicality to the position that the Eagles desperately need.
Studs: Eagles rushing defense
The Eagles held the Packers to 30 yards on 15 carries if you take out Aaron Rodgers’ 46 scampers. Yes, Rodgers threw for over 400 yards, so the rushing statistics are for naught. The Birds still held Aaron Jones 21 yards on 13 total carries.
