AMARAVATI: A group of students evacuated from Ukraine will be meeting chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy on Monday. The group of students, with one student each representing every district, will be meeting the CM in his chamber at secretariat to thank the CM for all the efforts made by state the government in bringing them back from Ukraine safely.
Speaking to the media here on Sunday, chairman of taskforce committee and principal secretary, transport, MT Krishna Babu, said that 692 students were brought back home safely from Ukraine. "We received 692 (549 in Delhi and 143 in Mumbai) students from different airports and they were provided with all the arrangements to reach their home. Another 226 students/residents have reached their homes by their own arrangements making the total those returned from Ukraine as 918," said Krishna Babu.
Explaining the measures initiated by the state government, Krishna Babu said the chief minister had promptly reacted soon after the crisis began in Ukraine and requested external affairs minister Jai Shankar to take all measures to bring the students back home. He said the CM had also promised to extend his support to the Centre in the efforts. He said the CM had also wrote a letter to the embassy on Jan 30 requesting information on Telugu students and NRTs who are willing to travel back to India. Soon, the state government constituted a task force headed by him and other senior officials to ensure the safe return of AP students. He said the task force was directed to coordinate with embassies of India in Ukraine and its border countries.
"With the support of the Centre and advisories from various embassies, the state government communicated with student groups and guided them with the latest information and maintained contact with Telugu Associations, business professionals and student groups for the immediate help," said Krishna Babu.
