Stuart McKinstry approaching Leeds United exit door as Motherwell loan form sparks Premiership interest

Leeds United are set to spark a summer transfer chase by releasing Stuart McKinstry after his loan at Motherwell ends.

The Scotland U21s international is out of contract at the end of the season and his parent club in England's Premier League have yet to open talks. Leeds are without a senior manager following the sacking of Jesse Marsch, but the early indications are that they will let him go. A clutch of Scottish Premiership clubs would be interested in the winger alongside some English Championship teams, who are all watching him closely.

The 20-year-old has spent this season out on loan at boyhood club Motherwell and has impressed this season in a struggling side that is battling relegation from the Premiership. McKinstry came through the ranks at Fir Park before he won a six figure move to Elland Road in 2021 and has been a key player for manager Steven Hammell.

He's scored four time with two assists and has made two appearances at senior level with Leeds. Hammell - previously 'Well academy director - said in 2021 that his young starlet 'will do wonderful things and become a household name in the next three or four years.'
