London 2012 gold medallist slams poor mums for 'having kids they can't afford'

An Olympic champion has sparked outrage after slammed struggling mums for having children they can't afford - branding them "irresponsible".

Karolina Sevastyanova, 25, reportedly said she would rather give her money to animal welfare groups and other charities instead of helping disadvantaged parents.

The gymnast, who won gold in the Group All-around at London 2012, made the fiery comments during a recent Q&A with her 600,000 Instagram followers.

When asked why she openly refused to help cash-strapped families, she didn't take into the account the myriad of reasons why someone would need help, saying: "These people chose to be so irresponsible.

What do you make of Karolina's remarks? Let us know in the comments below

"We do not live in the Stone Age where the issue of pregnancy cannot be controlled.

"When you already know that you cannot take care of one child why give birth to a second, a third, a fourth?

"Is it even fair to the children when you cannot provide them with a good future?"

Karolina added that she should not be made to feel responsible for the actions of other people, reports The Sun.

The glamorous Russian regularly posts on social media and appeared on the front cover of her home country's edition of Maxim in 2015.

She also won gold at the European Championships and World Cup Final in 2012.
