Strictly star Amy Dowden's husband praises her 'resilience' as couple thank fans for support

Strictly Come Dancing star Amy Dowden has returned to social media following the news of her cancer diagnosis last month.

The 32-year-old professional dancer appeared to be in good spirits as she took to Instagram in a string of beaming snaps, enjoying her little nephew's first birthday party in the garden amid the roasting hot temperatures.

Amy discovered the heartbreaking cancer news just a day before she and husband Ben Jones were due to jet off on their honeymoon in the Maldives, and now the couple has spoken out in support to all their fans for the well-wishes and support.

“Amy has had a lot to deal with in her life and, as I expected, has shown great resilience in the past couple of weeks," Ben said in a recent interview, when he praised his wife's tenacity in the face of the difficult news.

Ben told Hello! magazine: "We are both surrounded by lots of family and friends who are going to be an important support to us in the coming months.

"We are both staying very positive and remain optimistic moving forward."

Meanwhile, over on Instagram, Amy gushed over the "outpouring" of support she has been receiving in the wake of the news.

She wrote: "Hey all, I'd just like to THANK YOU all for the outpouring of support I've received in the last few days. It means so very much to me and Ben and certainly the boost we needed. Thank you thank you thank you! #breastcancerawarness #checkyourchest #letsbeatthis #breastcanceryoung #checkyourboobies #raiseawareness," as she shared a series of hearts.

Giving an update on her health, after Amy and Ben discovered she has grade three breast cancer two weeks ago, she spoke of having the hope of getting through it.

"My doctor explained to me that there are three grades, and three is the most aggressive, but they feel as though they’ve caught mine early and [told me] to not be too alarmed because grade 3 would be expected in somebody of my age," she said.

Amy also spoke in the interview to the publication of her determination in returning to Strictly, following the news producers wouldn't be replacing her on the show.

"I’m going to do my utmost to be there for the new series," she said as she thanked her loving BBC co-stars for all their ongoing support.

She added: "They all told me how they would be there every step of the way until I join them on the dancefloor again."
