Strictly's Will Mellor lands 'dark' new TV role after heartache at missing out on final

Will Mellor has been confirmed for a TV role that is a million miles away from his time as a contestant on Strictly Come Dancing; with him landing the new job after the heartache of missing out on the final at the end of last year.

Will was hastily installed as the favourite to win the last series of Strictly, after he blew everyone away with his week one jive to Ricky Martin's Livin' La Vida Loca. Alongside pro partner Nancy Xu, he became a big hit with both the judges and viewers at home; however, after his scores took a dive in the second week of his stint in the ballroom, Will was then struck down a virus, just as he was hoping to bounce back in style.

After that setback, Will and Nancy became consistent high scorers, but, agonisingly missed out on a spot in the Strictly final, after finishing bottom of the leaderboard in the semi and then losing out in the dance off to Fleur East and Vito Coppola. Both Will and Nancy were visibly upset as they bowed out of the ballroom in fifth place, but are now wowing fans across the country on the Strictly live tour and have already notched up 10 wins from audience votes.

And soon Will, who shot to fame in Hollyoaks in the 90s, before joining the cast of Two Pints of Lager, will soon be on screen in a very different show - Cops Who Kill - which will launch on Crime Investigation + on March 6.

Examining crimes from the UK, Australia and the US, ex No Offence star and true crime fan Will will explores eight cases where police officers have committed murder, including the much publicised death of Sarah Everard at the hands of cop Wayne Couzens. The actor will scrutinise the devious plots and planning that went into each crime and how the perpetrators used their police training to try and cover their tracks.

Commenting on his role, Will said:“Cops Who Kill is a fascinating project, examining cases where the police abuse their power unforgivably and the repercussions this has across society. It’s a timely series and I’m privileged to talk to experts in their fields about how we can learn from these crimes.”
