Strictly's Tony Adams calls Katya 'overcritical' as pair address on-air 'row'

Strictly Come Dancing star Tony Adams has spoken out on his relationship with pro dance partner Katya Jones after the pair appeared to be caught arguing during the latest live episode.

Katya and former footballer Tony appeared together on ITV 's Good Morning Britain after dodging the dreaded dance-off last weekend, despite coming bottom of the leader board. Many viewers hit out at the "unfair" outcome of week four, after Ellie Simmonds and Nikita Kuzmin were knocked out of the competition.

As host Susanna Reid asked Tony and Katya about the supposed falling-out, the pair appeared to poke fun at rumours that they don't get along. "We constantly argue, don't we?" Tony asked Katya.

"Yeah, we just don't like each other at all. We don't get on," Katya replied as the dancing couple laughed together.

Singing Katya's praises, Tony went on: "We've been working for two months together now, and she's been training me - she's a genius. The routines she's putting on are incredible."

Hinting that there may have been some disagreements behind the scenes, he added: "Sometimes, when I miss a step, she's a little bit overcritical at times. I just want to have a good time."

Good Morning Britain host and former Labour politician Ed Balls, who was paired with Katya when he was a contestant on Strictly back in 2016, chimed in: "She believes and always thinks you can do better, and that makes you better."

Tony coyly replied: "I think it's a balance between maybe letting me make a mistake and enjoy myself a little bit." The comments come after the pair appeared to be caught rowing during Saturday's live show.

As hosts Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman wrapped up the show, the former footballer appeared to be in deep conversation with Katya who had her back to the camera. It came after judge Shirley Ballas told the 56-year-old that he had "made too many mistakes" in his his salsa.
