Strictly's Kym Marsh watches show from home as she's forced to miss performance

Strictly Come Dancing star Kym Marsh was revealed to be "resting" and watching the series from the comfort of her own home, after having to miss the show.

It was confirmed this week that Kym would have to withdraw from Saturday night’s live episode, as well as her pro dance partner Graziano Di Prima, just weeks before the final.

The BBC confirmed in a statement that Kym had tested positive for coronavirus, meaning she could not perform this week - while it's hoped she will be back next Saturday.

On the show on Saturday, hosts Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman confirmed the absence again, but also revealed Kym was watching from home.

While no further details were revealed, and Kym remained silent on the matter, Tess said she would be "resting" - with it hoped next week will see them return.

Tess said: "Now Kym and Graziano are not with us tonight. Kym has tested positive for coronavirus and is resting at home. All being well she and Graziano will be back to dance again next week."

Claudia then said: "Kym, we know you are watching. Everybody in here, we are sending you so much love."

Kym herself had not said anything about the news on social media this week, and this stayed that way prior to the show on Saturday.

Graziano, meanwhile, thanked viewers and his followers for their support as he took to Instagram to say he and Kym would be back soon.

In one post prior to the show, he said: "@marsh_kym you are the Best!! #teammarshiano will be back next week!!

"Thank you for all the messages, your support means everything to us!"

In another post, wishing the other couples well and confirming their absence, he said: " This was Blackpool week, @marsh_kym how much you have improved it’s incredible!! Good luck to all the couples tonight!!"

All being well, Kym will be allowed to return next weekend - following the looming next elimination on Sunday night.

The statement released this week read: “ Kym Marsh has tested positive for Covid-19. As a result, Kym and Graziano will not be taking part in Strictly Come Dancing this weekend.

“Strictly Come Dancing protocols mean that all being well, they will return the following week.”

The news left some viewers calling for a rule change, believing no one should leave in her absence.

One viewer said: "I would rather they kept all couples in this week and had a double elimination the week after. Just to make it fair."

Another said: "This late in the game no, esp since she is at risk, they should just do a double next week."

A third wrote: "What would really be fair is no elimination this week and a double next week"

Strictly Come Dancing airs its result show on Sunday at 6pm on BBC One.
