Strictly's Helen Skelton gets emotional as she says show has made her remember who she is

Helen Skelton got emotional as she reflected on how Strictly Come Dancing had made her remember who she is.

The Countryfile presenter - who split from her husband Richie Myler soon after the arrival of their third child - opened up in her VT today about how Strictly has boosted her confidence. She explained how the show has helped her discover her 'sassy' side.

Fans were stunned when Helen revealed her and Richie had split up. He since announced he is expecting a baby with his new girlfriend. As Helen spoke in her VT, she explained that the show has taught her what she can "offer" as a person.

Speaking about her latest dance, Helen said: "It's not me at all. For me, it's a chance to be powerful and sassy and all of that. I think that's a good thing for me to explore. Strictly has given me so many things already.

"It's helped me remember who I am - and remember what I'm about. I've got lots to be thankful for and I know what I can offer."

Helen previously revealed her main aim of going on the show is to have a good time and "learn".

She told The Mirror: "This whole show for me is about having a good time, learning, working hard. As long as I ticked those boxes at the end of each week, I'm happy. For me, all I wanted to do in this competition is smile, work, learn and improve. If I get to the end of each week and I've done that brilliantly, if I get through the week then I'm ecstatic."

Helen says she is "just grateful to be involved" in the show, which comes at a turning point in her life.

"I'm working really hard in the week, I'm laughing all day. I'm sweating and I'm tired and the rest of it but that's really a rewarding feeling," she added, "I'm working really hard, I'm laughing all day. I'm sweating and I'm tired the rest of it but that's a rewarding feeling."

Body language expert Judi James also shared clear signs that Helen's confidence has grown.

"Helen’s confidence signals peaked with her Blackpool performance, and her body language on It Takes Two last night revealed a complete change of emotional state from the wary woman we saw at the start of the series," the body language expert explains.

She goes on to add: "There were at least five ‘tells’ that showed this confidence is authentic: Firstly her pace. Her speech has speeded up to signal enthusiasm and her movements and gestures are the same.

"She was sitting in the front of her chair rather than sitting back using self-protective barrier gestures, and her feet were placed side by side on the floor for most of the interview, suggesting focus and strength. When she did cross her legs they were at an angled slant, hinting at the kind of vanity she appeared to lack at the start of the season."
