Strictly's Gorka Marquez backs Helen Skelton over new TV partnership with ex contestant

Gorka Marquez has given his backing to his former Strictly Come Dancing partner Helen Skelton, as she embarks on a new TV project with another contestant from the BBC show.

Having previously made the Strictly final alongside Alexandra Burke and Maisie Smith, Gorka was paired with former Blue Peter presenter Helen in the ballroom last year and, after a rather hesitant start to their time together, with Helen even walking out of rehearsals at one point, the couple went from strength to strength and made it all the way to the finale.

They ended up being beaten to the Glitterball trophy by Hamza and Jowita, before Helen then joined forces with another Strictly pro, Kai Widdrington, for the annual live tour, after Gorka turned down the chance to do the tour, to instead spend some quality time with his family.

Helen and Kai ended up emerging from the tour as overall winners, having notched up the most wins at arenas across the country and now,. having recently been on screens in Channel 5's Springtime on the Farm, Helen is working on another programme for the broadcaster, a new travel series with Dan Walker. Former Football Focus anchor Dan made the switch from BBC Breakfast to 5 News last year and he and Helen are being kept busy with filming for Pennine Adventures.

One of their first days of filming saw them stay in wigwams, with Helen sharing a photo of her and Dan on her Instagram grid. And one of the first people to respond was Giorka, who commented: "That looks like fun!"

As others questioned why Dan was looking so miserable in the snap. he told Helen: "You told me we were doing serious faces and then you threw in a smile last minute."
