Strictly's Amy Dowden's inspiring words from hospital bed as she begins cancer treatment

Strictly Come Dancing star Amy Dowden has shared inspirational words from her hospital bed as she begins treatment following a breast cancer diagnosis.

Last month, the 32-year-old TV star and dancer revealed the devastating news that she has grade 3 breast cancer. But she took to social media on Wednesday to assure her adoring fans that she determined to fight her diagnosis and return to the Strictly dance floor.

Amy's diagnosis came after she found a lump in her breast before heading off on her honeymoon with husband Ben Jones in April. She has also battled stomach condition Crohn's Disease since she was young and recently admitted she has already been through 'quite a lot' in her life.

However, as she underwent treatment for her cancer diagnosis today, Amy appeared to be more positive and determined than ever to beat the illness. Posing for the camera while donning a hospital gown, she gave two thumbs up as she smiled from her hospital bed, The Mirror reports.

Alongside the poignant snap, Amy wrote: "Step one to beating cancer! Rrrrrrready for this fight and more determined than ever to get back on the dance floor."

And it wasn't long before some of her famous pals flocked to the comments to share their love and well wishes with the professional dancer. Singer Tom Fletcher wrote: "Sending you all the love today. Us Fletchers are right behind you. X."

Former It Takes Two host Zoe Ball commented: "Huge love and strength to you beautiful Amy." While Amy's Strictly co-star, Karen Hauer, added: "Love you. You've got this."

Last month, Amy shared her diagnosis on Instagram but Strictly execs are clearly hopeful for the future and are hoping that she will be back on the dancefloor soon.

"They won't be recasting a replacement for Amy and even if she isn't well enough to take part in a full series, they'll strive to have her back showcasing her amazing skills in some form," an insider told The Sun recently.

"That might be in the form of a performance with other pros or even this year's Christmas special. Either way the door remains open for her to return at a time and manner of her choosing."

The show is clearly backing Amy as she begins her recovery and 'keep the door open' for her potential return. If her health improves, she may return for special episodes when the programme hits screens again in September.

At the time of her sad health announcement, Amy wrote: "I've got some news which isn't easy to share. I've recently been diagnosed with breast cancer but I am determined to get back on that dance floor before you know it. Welsh love Amy X."
