Strictly's Amy Dowden 'ready to fight' as she shares health update from hospital after recent cancer diagnosis

Caerphilly-born dancing star Amy Dowden has shared an update from her hospital bed just weeks after revealing the sad news that she's been diagnosed with breast cancer. The 32-year-old Strictly Come Dancing professional is seen on her Instagram sat up in bed wearing a hospital gown giving a double thumbs up and still looking glamorous as ever.

She writes: "Step one to beating cancer! Rrrrrrready for this fight and more determined than ever to get back on the dance floor." She doesn't confirm if the picture is pre or post-treatment, but either way, Amy is facing her condition head-on and fighting to get back on the dancefloor.

Support from friends and Strictly colleagues has poured in under the post, including her 2021 celeb partner, Tom Fletcher who wrote: "Sending you all the love today. Us Fletchers are right behind you. X"

Gorka Marquez said: " you got this @amy_dowden" and Radio 2 DJ and former It Takes Two presenter, Zoe Ball said: "Huge love and strength to you beautiful Amy."

The British Champion, who also has Crohn's disease, which she talks about here, broke the news in May, telling her 328,000 followers: "Hey all, I've got some news which isn't easy to share. I've recently been diagnosed with breast cancer but I'm determined to get back on that dancefloor before you know it. Welsh love Amy."

Since the announcement, Amy has received many comments of support including from the fellow Strictly Come Dancing cast and The One Show host Alex Jones. Amy has now thanked her fans for their support on Instagram.

When announcing her diagnosis, Amy also shared a candid interview she had done with Hello! Magazine, where she told the publication: "You just don't ever think it's going to happen to you. I hadn't thought it was possible to get breast cancer at my age. My mum has had breast cancer but she had it at a later age, in her 50s."
