Strictly pro's estranged husband claims show ‘ruined their marriage’

Strictly Come Dancing professional Karen Hauer’s estranged husband has said the show played a role in their split

In October, it was reported that Venezuelan dancer Hauer, 41, and businessman Jordan Wyn-Jones had parted ways after marrying in 2022.

In an interview with the Mail on Sunday, Wyn-Jones said while he “admired” her dedication to her career and the show, he felt like her priorities were always elsewhere.

He said: “It’s a bit of a love story, a sad story. I’m incredibly sad not to be in Karen’s life, and not on this journey with her but we’re not right for each other in terms of her career.

“I will always admire her for her career but it took her away from me a lot. She’d be away and I’d be at home on my own.”

He said Hauer’s focus on her career meant - ultimately - they wanted “different things” from life. He suggested that a recent interview the dancer gave where she said children were not in her future was a contributing factor to their split.

“There was a plan about having children but then there wasn’t a plan,” he claimed.

He continued: “You do say things like, ‘I want to have kids’. And she’d mentioned to me that she wanted to have kids with me. But in the interview, Karen said ‘kids aren’t in the future’ – which made me sad. I’d always wanted to be a father.”

He said the pair met to discuss their differences and their marriage two months ago - eventually coming to the conclusion that their union was over.

"There were tears on both sides. A lot of tears of sadness,” he told the publication. “We didn’t want to let go of each other but we’re also not right for each other.”

Hauer - Strictly’s longest-serving professional - was partnered with Eddie Kadi for this season, with the pair becoming the fourth couple to leave the competition.

It was confirmed that Kadi and Hauer would not lift the Glitterball trophy later this year after their samba to Calm Down by Rema ft Selena Gomez failed to impress at the end of last month.

Kadi, 40, had received a total score of 24 points from the judges on Saturday and following a public vote faced Zara McDermott and Graziano Di Prima in the dance-off.

On Sunday’s episode of the BBC One show saw Channel 4 News presenter Krishnan Guru-Murthy, 53, lose out to 79-year-old broadcaster Angela Rippon.

Guru-Murthy said: “Look, this has been the most incredible experience. I said it has been life-changing and it genuinely has. I am incredibly grateful to the entire production team, judges, my incredible Strictly family up there.

“It’s right I am going out this week and I have got to get back to life. The thing that has made Strictly really special is Lauren.

“She is most incredible teacher, partner, friend. She is the real Strictly star and I am so delighted I am the first partnership you have had. She is going to go a long way and I am very proud of her.”
