Strictly pro left 'sobbing' after securing his highest mark ever in quarter final

Strictly Come Dancing professional Carlos Gu broke down in tears after securing his highest mark of the series with Molly Rainford.

The newcomer became emotional as the judges praised his dance for Musical’s week with the CBBC star, as the duo performed with their Charleston to Chicago’s Hot Honey Rag.

Carlos cried into Molly’s arms as they she comforted him in an embraced while they received a near-perfect score of 38 points.

The impressive result was complimented by high praise from the judges who remarked on a ‘huge transformation’ to previous weeks when the duo have ended up in the bottom two.

Head judge Shirley Ballas and fellow judge Motsi Mabuse were on their feet for the performance, before Shirley said: "What a way to open the show, I wasn't expecting that... you looked like you were having a ball."

As Anton Du Beke added: "If you're going to pick a moment to up your game, you've picked it, well done, marvellous.”

Even Craig Revel Horwood, who received Gorka Marquez’ bottom in his face after he criticised Helen Skelton’s performance, had something positive to say.

He declared: "What a transformation... well done.”

As the scores came in, Craig, Shirley and Motsi splashed out their 10 paddle for Molly and Carlos’ performance, but Anton only gave them a 9.

While the cameras cut to the judges for their scores, host Claudia Winkleman revealed that Carlos was “sobbing” at the positive result.

Before she commended the professional for reaching the big milestone of his highest result of the series: "This is your first series and your highest score yet, well done.”

Fans have slammed the scoring system on the show as “inconsistent” and suggested that the judges have “favourites.”

“Same thing week in week out. Judges have their favourites,” one viewer wrote on Twitter, “Fleur, Will and Helen all bang average and get 10’s thrown at them. Hamza and Molly clearly the best and can barely scrape a 9 out of the judges.”

As another agreed: “Molly has full power and full energy every week! She deserves 10s every single week! Anton is nearly just as bad as Craig.”
