Strictly Come Dancing bosses have sent their love and support to Amy Dowden amid the news the dancer has been diagnosed with cancer.

Amy shared the devastating news with fans this morning, telling her social media followers she received a Stage 3 breast cancer diagnosis last week.

The professional dancer, 32, was flooded with support from famous friends and fellow Strictly stars as she vowed to return to the dancefloor soon.

Taking to Instagram this morning [Wednesday], Amy shared the sad news with her fans and urged people to follow a link posted to educate themselves further about cancer.

"Hey all, I’ve got some news which isn’t easy to share," the 32-year-old began when addressing her followers.

"I’ve recently been diagnosed with breast cancer but I’m determined to get back on that dance floor before you know it."

Amy, who tied the knot last year, signed off with a love heart emoji and penned "Welsh love Amy x."

Sarah James, executive producer of the BBC series, has since said: "Amy is an exceptional person, both on and off the dance floor, and is adored by her entire Strictly Come Dancing family.

"Everyone on the show is sending Amy all our love and she knows that we are all here to support her, whenever she needs us."

Amy, who has danced with James Bye and Tom Fletcher on Strictly over the years, received the shock diagnosis last week and doesn't currently know if she will be able to return to Strictly later this year.

The professional dancer has Stage three breast cancer, the final stage behind the most severe, Stage 4, which means the disease has spread to lymph nodes close to the breast, to the skin of the breast or to the chest wall.

Sadly, this isn't the first time cancer has impacted the star's life, with Amy growing up as he mum was diagnosed with thyroid and breast cancer.

Speaking with Hello! magazine, Amy explained: "You just don't ever think it's going to happen to you. I hadn't thought it was possible to get breast cancer at my age. My mum has had breast cancer, but she had it at a later age, in her 50s."

Amy went on to share how she first discovered a lump in her right breast in April while on holiday with husband Ben in the Maldives.

When she returned form the break abroad, the dancer booked in with her GP and was sent for an emergency referral before being diagnosed last week with grade 3 breast cancer.

"My doctor explained to me that there are three grades, and three is the most aggressive, but they feel like they've caught mine early and to not be too alarmed because grade 3 would be expected in somebody of my age," she explained to Hello!

After sharing her diagnosis on Instagram this morning, people flocked to the comment section underneath Amy's post to send their love and support.
